A Greater Mystery

“It is sometimes the mystery of death

that brings one to a consciousness

of the still greater mystery of life.”

I’m in Texas this week with my Dad and my three younger sisters at my mother’s hospital bedside in ICU as she breathes with the help of oxygen. Mother is 90 years old, and from her hospital bed, she has been writing her good-byes on sheets of paper on a clipboard – amazingly, without looking at pen or paper. We don’t know what will happen from one moment to the next, but we do know that each breath is precious.

Pay deep attention. Breathe in the mystery of life; breathe out gratitude. Nurture peace, cultivate loving kindness, and carry the calm.

How Do You Pay for a Lovely Moment?

Did you ever find yourself unable to enjoy a lovely moment, because you don’t deserve it? Or because too many people in the world can’t enjoy such moments, so you believe you have no right to enjoy them either? Sounds a bit warped, but some of us have thought that way. Yet a lovely moment is a gift, and to willfully ignore it is to be ungrateful.

“The best way to pay for a lovely moment is to enjoy it.”

– Richard Bach –

Enjoy some lovely moments this week. Let them nurture your peace and cultivate your loving-kindness. Carry the calm.

Gardeners Who Make Our Souls Blossom

“Let us be grateful to people who make us happy.

They are the charming gardeners who make our souls blossom.”

– Marcel Proust –

I hope you get to spend Thanksgiving with people who make you happy. Take a few moments to still yourself, allow peace to settle over you, and let your soul blossom with gratitude. It’s rich heart-soil, especially for nurturing calm.

I’m grateful for you, thankful that you share my hope of nourishing peace, cultivating loving kindness, and carrying calm into the world.
