In the Deep Heart’s Core

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,

And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made:

Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee;

And live alone in the bee-loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow

Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;

There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,

And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

I will arise and go now, for always night and day

I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;

While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,

I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

– W.B. Yeats –

“The Lake Isle of Innisfree”

Be still. Listen. What do you hear in your deep heart’s core?

Nurture peace. Cultivate kindness. Carry the calm.

Seeds for All Seasons

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest that you reap

but by the seeds that you plant.”

Robert Louis Stevenson

Peace and Pageantry

Let us … seek peace …

near the inland murmur of streams,

and the gracious waving of trees,

the beauteous vesture of earth,

and sublime pageantry of the skies.

– Mary Shelley, The Last Man

Nurture peace. Cultivate kindness. Carry the calm.

If You Want to See Birds

“If you want to see birds, you must have birds in your heart.”

John Burroughs

I think, too, that if we want to see peace, we must have peace in our hearts. If we want to see kindness, we must have kindness in our hearts. If we want to find calm, we must carry it within.

Nurture peace. Cultivate kindness. Carry the calm.

Nature of the week – A bluebird visited this week, which is a rare event. I barely got a picture of him before he flew away. Yesterday, he and his mate returned carrying grassy twigs and made themselves at home!

The Silent Promise of Cherry Blossoms

“Out of the dusk of distant woods

All round the April skies

Blossom-white, the cherry trees

Like lovely apparitions rise. . .

Like silent promises of peace,

Like hope that blossoms in the heart.”

Laurence Binyon, “Cherry Trees” –

Night, Still and Silent

Profoundly still the twilight air,

Lifeless the landscape; so we deem,

Till like a phantom gliding near

A stag bends down to drink the stream.

And far away a mountain zone,

A cold, white waste of snow-drifts lies,

And one star, large and soft and lone,

Silently lights the unclouded skies.

Charlotte Bronte, “Speak of the North”

May the skies of your heart be unclouded, lit by the star of peace.

Nurture peace. Cultivate kindness. Carry the calm.

Finding Beauty – and Peace

“Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful,

we must carry it with us or we find it not.”

– Ralph Waldo Emerson –

The same could be said about peace. Nurture peace. Cultivate kindness. Carry the calm.

Mercy, Pity, Love, and Peace

“For Mercy has a human heart,

Pity a human face,

And Love, the human form divine,

And Peace, the human dress.”

William Blake

May mercy overflow your heart,

may compassion wear your face,

may love take your form.

May you be clothed in peace.

Nurture peace. Cultivate kindness. Carry the calm.
